Niklas Wais

PhD candidate, Institute for Media and Data Law and Digitalization at University of Leipzig

Niklas Wais studied law in Freiburg and Istanbul. He was a research assistant at University of Freiburg’s Institute for Media and Information Law (Department 1: Civil and Commercial Law) from 2019 to 2021, where he co-founded and supervised a project aimed at computer science education for law students (“FUTURE”). During the time Niklas was granted a fellowship from “KI Campus”, which is i.a. funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to strengthen interdisciplinary university programs on AI. Since 2021, he has been a research assistant and PhD candidate at the Institute for Media and Data Law and Digitalization at University of Leipzig. The German Association of Law and Informatics (DGRI e.V.) has selected him as a Young Fellow for the year 2023.

Niklas is the author of several interdisciplinary publications on topics at the interface of law and technology and is regularly speaking at national and international conferences like CLS 2022, AAAI-23, and ICAIL 23.

His stay at the Centre is supported by a scholarship of the DAAD (track: International Research Stays for Computer Scientists).
